The How of Integrative Meaning Therapy

AEPP02 | Legacy Certificate Course

Online Certificate Course, Asynchronous

Date: Starting on September 7th, 2026 |  Time: Asynchronous

This legacy certificate course, presented by the International Network on Personal Meaning, is offered on a rolling basis so students can register anytime after September 7th, 2026. This course is also asynchronous, meaning that students can complete this course at their own time. This course is designed to be completed within four months.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Integrative Meaning Therapy (IMT) incorporates various therapeutic modalities, such as CBT, narrative therapy, and cross-cultural therapy, with meaning as the central organizing construct. It is based on positive psychology research and existential insights. It is tailored to individual client’s special needs, but also makes optimal use of clients’ innate capabilities for meaning-seeking and meaning-making.

This legacy certificate course teaches students how to turn suffering into success, and weakness into strength as a less travelled path to facilitate healing and flourishing. This course will also equip students to identify the challenges and opportunities of addressing clients’ deepest fears and highest aspirations. At the end of this legacy certificate course, all students will gain a deeper understanding of:

  1. The defining characteristics of IMT.
  2. The safe and effective use of self as a therapist.
  3. The major IMT intervention strategies.
  4. Paradoxical IMT intervention skills.
  5. How to apply IMT to various conditions.

All participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of this course.

Q: In what ways is this Certificate Course different from other applied positive psychology courses or existential therapy courses?

A: This course is unique in at least two important ways:

  • It integrates applied positive psychology and existential therapy from the different perspectives of the West and the East. Thus, it is both integrative and multicultural in a seamless way because Dr. Wong (the course presenter) is a truly bicultural person.
  • It contains a lot of proprietary materials based on Dr. Wong’s 50 years of research and practice.
