His main contributions to this area consist of the stage model of coping and resilience based on behavioural mechanisms and the resource-congruence model of effective coping and resilience based on social personality research.
 
The two instruments he has developed are the stress appraisal measure (SAM) and the Revised Coping Schemas Inventory (R-CSI).
